Welcome to Amethyst Mine in Lapland

Lampivaara Amethyst Mine, located in Lapland, is a fascinating travel destination all year round. The amethyst of Lampivaara fell was born 2 000 million years ago in the bowels of the ancient mountains. There is now a gem mine on the top of the hill that will sustain for the hundreds of years.

Guided mine tours include the stories of geology and history, in addition to the physics and chemistry of the stones. Also you will hear about the properties of the gems and the uses of amethyst. There are positive beliefs and fascinating stories about amethyst in many cultures. Leonardo da Vinci always had an amethyst stone on his working desk. He wrote into his diary: “Amethyst dispels evil thoughts and speeds up thinking” .

I saw that there are two prices for the tickets
One is 35euro and another is 19 euro
May I know what is the exact difference between these two?
Do I need to pay in advance if I want to buy the one with 19euro?
And is there any discount for students in Finland?

henkos - 19.2.2013 - 5.02

You can buy 19 euro ticket from the Amethyst Mine (Lampivaara Café) upon arrival (no need for prior reservation). In winter time Lampivaara Café can be reached by skiing or by hiking, 5 km from the center of Luosto. There is a parking lot area in the midway where you can get by the car. Thanks to notice that hiking may take little longer due to weather and snow situation.

From the parking lot we start every day with Amethyst Pendolino transportation to Amethyst Mine. Ticket 35 e includes return transfers and visit to the Mine.

Hello, we are two french in holidays until tomorrow evening in lapland. We would like to know if it is possible to visit the mine tomorrow? The hometown of rovaniemi said yes but we would like to be sure before coming. Thank you in advance for your answer.

henkos - 7.5.2013 - 7.22

Hello,
as it is not anymore winter and not yet summer – it is not possible to reach Amethyst Mine at the moment. It looks it will take at least 1 – 2 weeks before we can take visitors to Amethyst Mine.
Let’s hope you can visit the place some other time in future!
